Troubleshooting Silent Computers: Causes and Solutions

Steps to resolve silent glitches

2. Replace the audio device: Try using another audio device to troubleshoot the hardware failure.

3. Update or reinstall the driver: Update or reinstall the audio driver through Device Manager.

4. Start the audio service: Check whether the system audio service is running and try to restart the service.

Steps to check and start the audio service:

(1) Open the service manager:

Press the Win + R keys to open the Run dialog box, enter services.msc and press Enter.

(2) Positioning audio service:

In the service list, find audio-related services. Common audio services may include “Windows Audio”, “Windows Audio Endpoint Builder”, etc.

(3) Check service status:

Verify that the audio service is running. If the service is not running, the service status will be displayed as “Stopped”.

(4) Start the service:

If the service is not running, right-click the service and select “Start” to start the service. If the service is already running, try right-clicking and selecting “Restart” to clear possible temporary errors.

(5) Set startup type:

To ensure that the audio service runs automatically when the system starts, you can change its startup type. Right-click the service, select “Properties”, and select “Automatic” in the “Startup type” drop-down menu.

(6) Apply and close:

Apply the changes and close the Service Manager window.

5. Restart your computer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary software conflicts.

6. Check software settings: Make sure no applications are individually muting or reducing system volume.

7. System Restore: If you suspect that recent changes are causing the problem, you can try to restore the system to its previous state.

8. Check audio format compatibility: Make sure the audio file format is supported by the player.
